What
is Reiki?
Reiki
(pronounced ray-key) is a natural healing technique, which
originated from the teachings of Mikao Usui around 1900. Reiki is
made up of two words Rei - meaning universal or spiritual and Ki -
life energy. Universal Life Energy - an energy that is all around us.
Usui's original teachings, which he referred to as a 'Method to
Achieve Personal Perfection', but his students called Usui-Do (Usui
way), were developed as a Spiritual method to aid one in finding ones
own Spiritual pathway and healing of the self, not simply as a method
for healing others as we tend to think of Reiki in the West today.
Unlike today's reiki teachings, Usui’s were based on meditation
exercises for improvement and healing of one's life.
Many
people have become obsessed about trying to find out more about Usui
the man, but in doing so they fail to see the purpose of his
teachings, which was about spiritual growth and service.
Today
his teachings are open to all, regardless of religious persuasion,
or beliefs.
